Overview

The Three Borders Tours is a faster, longer-distance journey designed for riders who want to go further each day while still connecting deeply with the landscapes, cultures, and stories of South Moravia and its neighbouring regions.

This is a tour for experienced cyclists who enjoy sustained days in the saddle and the quiet satisfaction of covering real ground. Over the course of the journey, riders move fluidly between three countries — Czechia, Austria, and Slovakia — cycling through vineyard landscapes, UNESCO-listed areas, historic borderlands, and sections of the legendary Iron Curtain Trail.

Like the South Moravia 360, the Three Borders Tour is not about racing from point to point. The routes are carefully designed to balance challenge with enjoyment, allowing time and freedom to stop, explore, and engage with the places you pass through — whether that’s a quiet village square, a castle ruin on a hill, or a winery you hadn’t planned to visit.

What sets this tour apart is its intensity and momentum. Distances are longer, days are fuller, and the sense of progression is stronger — yet the experience remains grounded, human, and connected to the region’s culture, food, wine, history, and people.

Itinerary

Day 1 — Arrival in Brno (No cycling)

Arrive in Brno and settle in. This day is reserved for arrival, rest and preparation. Guests collect bikes and any hired equipment, make final adjustments, and have time to explore the city at their own pace. Brno’s cafés, historic centre and relaxed atmosphere provide an ideal introduction to the region. A relaxed start that removes pressure and sets you up well for the days ahead.

Day 2 — Southbound Through Vineyards & Into Austria (Approx. 100 km)

Cycling begins as you leave Brno heading south on established cycle paths. The landscape gradually opens into wide plains and vineyard country, passing through lakeside areas and rural wine villages. The route crosses the border into Austria, riding beneath castle-topped hills before finishing in one of the region’s most celebrated wine towns. A long but rewarding first day that sets the pace for the tour.

Day 3 — UNESCO Landscapes & Pálava Hills (Approx. 95 km)

Today’s ride returns to Czechia and flows through one of Central Europe’s most distinctive cultural landscapes. Châteaux, castles, and historic monuments define the UNESCO landscape before giving way to hilltop vineyards and ancient ruins. The day finishes with a climb through the Pálava Hills before descending into a historic wine town beneath limestone cliffs.

Day 4 — Borderlands & the Iron Curtain (Approx. 105 km)

The route heads back into Austria before crossing into Slovakia, passing through river plains and historic border regions shaped by recent European history. Sections follow parts of the former Iron Curtain, offering a powerful sense of place and contrast. Crossing back into Czechia via a landmark footbridge, the day continues through open countryside and vineyard-covered hills, ending in a rural wine-growing area known for its rolling landscapes.

Day 5 — Rolling Countryside & Return to Brno (Approx. 100 km)

The final day heads north through gently undulating countryside, traditional wine villages, and open farmland. Long, steady sections of riding are broken up by cultural landmarks and panoramic views. As the route gradually returns to Brno, the journey comes full circle, closing the tour with a strong and satisfying final ride.

While elevation is a useful data point, how it feels on the bike varies greatly from rider to rider. Factors such as bike choice (manual or e-bike), individual fitness, pacing and even the time of day all influence how elevation is experienced. For this reason, we avoid using simplified difficulty labels and instead provide clear information so you can judge what suits you best.

On the Three Borders Tour, riders can expect a total elevation gain of approximately 2,000 metres across the full 400 km route. This averages around 500 metres per day, which together with the well-surfaced cycling paths, enables riders to pick up a sustainable pace as required. The result is a journey with intense peaks and enough up and down variation to stay interesting, but without prolonged or mountainous climbs.
